Growing Vegetable Plugs in Winter

Young plants like plugs are far more suited to winter-growing as there is less chance of them suffering from transplant shock. Whilst most people will grow their vegetable plugs in greenhouses, you also have the option to plant them in covered beds outdoors.

There are plenty of hardy varieties of vegetable plants that will survive the winter temperatures, but it’s important to acclimatise them to the cold by gradually hardening them off outdoors over the course of around a week.

You can, of course, grow your vegetable plugs in pots indoors until they’re large enough to be transplanted into beds or containers outdoors as the weather gets that little bit warmer.
