Dwarf Bean Seeds

Dwarf Bean Seeds

Dwarf bean seeds are a fantastic choice for gardeners looking to grow tasty, tender bean seeds in compact spaces. With their shorter growth habit, dwarf French beans do well in smaller gardens, raised beds, or even containers, so you can grow them no matter what kind of garden you have.

These quick-growing vegetable seeds thrive in warm, sunny spots and produce crops of delicious beans all the way through the summer months. Popular varieties like Tendergreen and Ferrari grow crisp, flavourful pods that fit any recipe that calls for beans, like fresh salads, stir-fries or steamed side dishes. When to Sow Dwarf Bean Seeds<

Start dwarf bean seeds indoors in April, a few weeks before the last expected frost. Once the seedlings are strong enough and the risk of frost has passed, usually around May to June, you can transplant them outdoors into a sunny, sheltered spot. If you’re sowing directly into the ground, wait until late spring when the soil has warmed up and there’s no longer any danger of frost. They grow well alongside kale seeds and cabbage seeds if you want even more fresh produce for your table this summer.

How to Grow Dwarf Bean Seeds

Dwarf beans are easy to grow and care for, whether you have green fingers or are a complete beginner. Sow dwarf bean seeds indoors in small pots or trays with well-drained compost, about 2-3cm (1in) deep. Keep the pots in a warm and sunny spot and water them regularly; keep them moist, but not waterlogged. They should sprout in 10 days. After 6 weeks, harden them off for 10 days by gradually introducing them to outdoor temperatures.

Alternatively, you can sow dwarf bean seeds outdoors in a sunny, sheltered spot once the weather is warm. Simply plant the seeds about 2-3cm (1in) deep and space them 5-7cm (2-3in) apart in rows. With a bit of care and regular watering, your dwarf bean plants will be ready to harvest in about 10 weeks, once the pods are firm and crisp.
