Growing Osteospermums from Seed
Growing osteospermum seeds is easy, even for beginner gardeners. They don’t require a lot of attention once established and are tolerant of hot temperatures and drought.
Hardy osteospermum seeds can be sown directly outdoors into pots, beds or borders from March-June. For half-hardy perennials, sow seeds indoors in a warm windowsill in January-March. Gradually accustom young plants to outside temperatures before planting out in May-June. Choose a sheltered spot in full sun with fertile, well-draining soil.
Deadhead any spent blooms to prolong flowering if desired. For hardy cultivars, cut back growth in autumn ready for next spring. Half-hardy cape daisies can be lifted and overwintered indoors or grown as annuals for an easy summer display.
