Kale Midnight Sun Seeds

Sow Kale ‘Midnight Sun’ indoors from March to May, 0.5cm (1/4in) deep in pots of seed compost. Keep the soil moist and maintain a temperature of approximately 15°C (60°F) for optimal germination. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them 5cm (2in) apart into larger trays. Gradually harden them off before planting outdoors, spacing them 45cm (18in) apart.

Alternatively, sow seeds outdoors from April to September, 1.5cm (1/2in) deep in finely prepared soil. Keep the soil moist throughout the growing period. If harvesting for baby leaves, no thinning is required. For mature plants, thin seedlings to 45cm (18in) apart. For a continuous supply, sow seeds every 2-3 weeks and ensure plants are well watered.

Sow Kale ‘Midnight Sun’ seeds indoors from March to May or outdoors from April to September, depending on growing conditions. Indoor sowing allows for an earlier start, while outdoor sowing works well in warmer months. If in doubt, sow indoors first.

For mature plants, space seedlings 45cm (18in) apart to allow for full growth. If growing for baby leaves, seeds can be sown more closely together without the need for thinning.
