Vegetable Seeds To Sow In March

March kicks off the main sowing season, so there are all sorts of things you can grow. Hardy vegetables like beetroot, leeks, and spinach can be sown directly into garden beds, while cauliflower and Brussels sprouts will benefit from an early indoor start. Or, for more quick-growing crops, try spring onions and rocket. You can also plant summer veg seeds like tomatoes, peppers, and courgettes indoors, giving them a strong head start before transplanting outside in late spring.

How to Sow Vegetable Seeds in March

Sowing in March means working with both indoor and outdoor conditions. Direct sowings should go into well-prepared soil – rake finely and remove stones to give seedlings the best possible start. Indoors, use small pots or trays filled with fine compost to sow tomatoes, peppers, and aubergines, and similar. Cover lightly, keep warm, and water gently. As temperatures rise, you can begin hardening off early crops, ready for planting outside in April or May. For more precise instructions, consult the packet your seeds come in.
