Hardy pea seeds, such as Douce Provence, can be planted in autumn (October-November) and overwintered. Autumn-sown pea seeds will produce the earliest harvest, but you may need to provide new shoots with some cold weather protection. You can also plant pea seeds in spring for later summer crops.

Sow Douce Provence pea seeds 5cm deep, directly into well-prepared, fertile soil with good drainage, allowing 60cm between each drill. Cover with soil and keep moist until seedlings appear. Ensure your peas receive plenty of sunlight, but only water in dry conditions. Peas will be ready to harvest from May onwards.

Douce Provence peas can grow to a maximum of 60cm tall, but most plants will only reach a height of around 45cm. As a compact variety, they should require little to no support, but pea sticks or netting can be used if desired.
