Description

Snowdrop Bulbs are a classic winter-flowering favourite, producing nodding white flowers with distinctive green inner markings and a delicate honey fragrance. Appearing from January into February, their familiar blooms are a welcome sign that spring is on its way.

Supplied as a pack of 50 bulbs, plants reach around 15cm (6in) and are excellent for naturalising beneath deciduous trees, through borders and in informal planting. Plant from September to October in well-drained soil in partial shade and leave established clumps undisturbed to spread gradually.

Bulb sizes are measured by circumference in centimetres. A 5/6 bulb measures approximately 5-6cm around. Larger bulbs generally contain more stored energy, helping to support strong growth and an impressive flowering display.

Why are snowdrops difficult to grow?

Snowdrops need specific conditions like well-drained, moist soil and partial shade. They also require a cold period to bloom, which can be tough in warmer climates, and they’re sensitive to overwatering or pests. But with high-quality bulbs - and the right care - you should still have a good crop of snowdrops!

How to store snowdrop bulbs?

As hardy plants, snowdrop bulbs would not normally be lifted and are fine to stay in the ground over winter. If you're looking to store them before planting, however, keep them in a well-ventilated bag - but aim to plant as soon as possible.

Do squirrels eat snowdrop bulbs?

No, squirrels don’t tend to eat snowdrop bulbs. Snowdrop bulbs (and other bulbs) are mildly toxic to squirrels. If you notice squirrels digging around where you planted your bulbs, it may be because they’re burying some nuts or seeds. If this is an issue, bury your bulbs deeper, spray repellent, or cover them with mesh to keep the squirrels away.
