Sow wild poppy seeds directly outdoors in early autumn or spring, as they need a period of cold to help them germinate. For the best results, scatter them onto well-prepared soil in a sunny spot and lightly rake them in. Autumn sowings will flower earlier the following year, whilst spring-sown poppies bloom later in the season. 

To grow wild poppy seeds, scatter them onto bare soil and rake them in, to cover them with fine soil and prevent birds from eating them all. Water lightly if the weather is dry, but avoid overwatering. Once your poppy seedlings appear, thin them out to around 15cm apart. Wild poppies thrive in poor, well-drained soil and require little maintenance. They’ll bloom in late spring to summer.
