A mid to early maturing variety, giving high yielding cobs that fill to the tip, with deep kernels and a narrow core. Plants perform consistently well in most conditions.

Sow & Grow

Sow indoors: March to May, in 7.5cm pots of seed compost. Sow singly and cover with 1.5cm of compost. Firm gently and keep moist Cover with glass, polythene or a propagator lid. Keep at approx. 15ºC. Remove cover once seedlings appear. Gradually acclimatise plants to outside conditions late May (avoid frosts). Transplant 35cm apart in each direction, set out in squares to help wind pollination. Keep well-watered particularly at flowering time.Sow outdoors: May, In a prepared seed bed, in the growing position. Sow 1-2 seeds together with 40cm between stations. Cover with 1.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Thin to one strong seedling per position.

Slow dispatch and poor germination

Same seed variety also from Fothergills in 20222, 2023 were excellent. This time however seed dispatch was not prompt and once received only got 50% germination on seeds. Granted though there are many variables, compost , weather etc .
