Dahlia Showpiece Seeds

To get the best out of your cut dahlia flowers, make sure to put them in water immediately after cutting the stems. The water should then be changed every few days. Cut the flowers back to a leaf node to encourage more blooms and longer, sturdier stems. Make sure to use a sharp pair of secateurs to make the cut.

Dahlia seeds should be sown between February and April. Dahlias are not frost-hardy, so seedlings should be planted out after the risk of frost has passed. 

Dahlias are perfectly happy in a container on their own, and their fantastic foliage, combined with big showy blooms, creates a vibrant display. However, if you want to combine them with another plant, opt for something that will act as ground cover and spill over the sides a little, such as alyssum.
