Blackberry Karaka Black Fruit Plant (Floricane) brings an impressive summer harvest to the garden, producing exceptionally large, glossy black berries with excellent flavour. The firm fruits are lovely picked fresh and shared straight from the garden, with plenty left for freezing, baking and homemade preserves.

Originally bred in New Zealand, Karaka Black produces thorny, arching canes reaching around 2m, so give it a sturdy wire support where the growth can be trained neatly. It fruits on canes grown the previous year; after the harvest, simply remove those fruited canes at ground level and tie in the fresh growth ready for next season.

Grow in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in a sunny position. Supplied as an established 2 litre potted plant to help it settle quickly into the garden.
