Anemone coronaria Mr Fokker Rich violet-blue flowers with velvety petals and dark centres bring a wonderfully dramatic touch to borders and containers. They look particularly beautiful beside white flowers, where their deep colour really stands out.

The poppy-like blooms sit above feathery green leaves and grow to around 25cm, so they are easy to enjoy in patio pots or at the front of a border. Plant several close together for a fuller splash of colour.

Growing advice: Before planting, soak the dry bulbs in water for several hours to help them wake up. Plant in spring in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil, or use pots filled with peat-free compost that drains freely. Water when needed as growth begins, but avoid leaving the bulbs sitting in wet soil. Protect pots from severe frost and excessive winter rain; let the soil become drier once the leaves die back. Flowering time varies with planting date and local conditions.
