Onion Sturon Set (Spring Planting)

Plant your Sturon onion sets in spring from March to April in a sunny, well-drained spot once the soil has warmed up. Push each set gently into prepared soil with the pointed tip facing upwards, so just the tip is visible above the surface. Space them 10cm apart in rows 30cm apart, and water in after planting if the soil is dry. Keep the area weed free and protect it from birds if needed.

Sturon onions are typically ready to harvest from July to September, once the foliage has yellowed and fallen over. Leave them to dry in the sun before storing.

Sturon onions are excellent keepers and can store for several months, often lasting well into winter and beyond when stored properly. After harvesting, dry the onions thoroughly in the sun or in a well ventilated space until the skins are papery, and the necks are completely dry. Store them in a cool, dry place such as a shed or garage, keeping them in nets, on trays, or strung together, and they'll provide you with homegrown flavour throughout the colder months.
