Description

Lilium martagon Claude Shride brings a touch of woodland magic to summer borders. Its graceful, nodding flowers are a rich mahogany-red, scattered with golden-yellow spots, while the petals curl backwards into the beautiful curved-petal shape that makes martagon lilies so special. Rising above leafy stems, these elegant blooms are lovely among other perennials and carry a gentle scent and make a distinctive addition to summer borders.

Give your lilies a welcoming home in a sheltered border with sun or light shade and soil that drains freely. Enrich the planting area with leaf mould or well-rotted organic matter, then set the bulbs around 15–20cm deep and 30cm apart. Keep the soil lightly moist during active growth, support taller stems if needed and let the leaves fade naturally so the bulbs can build strength for next year.
