Chamomile Seeds

Sow Chamomile seeds indoors from February to March, thinly, in pots or trays filled with seed compost. Gently firm the seeds into the surface, keeping the compost moist and warm at 15-20°C (60-68°F). Once the seedlings are large enough, transplant them 5cm (2in) apart into larger trays and grow on at around 15°C (60°F). Gradually harden off before planting out in late May, spacing them 20cm (8in) apart.

Alternatively, sow outdoors from April to June in a prepared seedbed. Lightly cover the seeds with fine soil and keep moist. Once the seedlings are large enough, thin them to 20cm (8in) apart. Transplant to their flowering position in September to October. Chamomile flowers from May to September the following year. Remove dead heads regularly to encourage prolonged flowering.

Chamomile seeds typically germinate within 7-14 days when kept in warm, moist conditions. The plants may take around 6-10 weeks to reach a transplantable size. Once established, they will flower from May to September in the following year if sown outdoors.
