The Colours of Chelsea 2025

Colour is at the heart of the Chelsea Flower Show, and each year brings fresh palettes and themes. More than just visual delight, colour can create dramatically different moods and atmosphere, ranging from bright and uplifting to soft and serene. Here are a few of our favourite colour moments from this year’s show:

Jo Thompson’s Glasshouse Garden captures a romantic atmosphere with rich, layered planting. Deep reds and plums from roses, poppies, and astrantia evoke a sense of ‘strong beauty’, while soft pinks and peaches from geum, foxglove, iris, and nasturtium balance the intensity, creating a dreamy, tender feel.

The Children with Cancer UK Garden uses a gentle palette to cultivate a healing space. White foxgloves and purple iris contrast with varying shades of green, offering a tranquil retreat alongside the garden’s more playful elements.

Monty Don’s Dog Garden takes a calming approach with lush green planting punctuated by burgundy lupins and vivid orange geums. The standout, Poppy Lauren’s Grape, adds elegance with its velvet petals swaying delicately above the foliage.

The Tackling HIV: Challenging Stigma Garden is a celebration of bold, joyful colour. A vibrant mix of purple allium and lupin, yellow baptisia, orange verbascum, and white orlaya reflects the diversity and resilience of the HIV community with a lively, optimistic feel.
